Ways Of Data Destruction Services

By Flora Vinson

Most institutions have embraced data destruction services, as they play a key role in enhancing security of confidential but unwanted information. After destroying these records, sensitive information are protected from being accessed by unauthorized people, who may retrieve vital information from the records. Using the right mechanism to destroy the records is required in order to comply with some regulations regarding to data security.

Existence of different companies offering this service makes it convenient for government agencies and other organizations to permanently delete their outdated information. They destroy information stored in hard disks, floppy disks, and magnetic tapes. They provide reliable services that ensures permanent removal of information in these storage drives.

One of the method used in destroying the data is passing the storage devices through magnetic power, which leaves the device permanently destroyed. This process of using magnetic power is usually known as degaussing. It leaves the drives in a state that no information be read from it. Also, the disc can no longer be used after the process. It is very efficient since it totally cleans the drives leaving them unreadable.

Shredding of hard disk is another process of destroying information stored in this disk. The drives are placed in industrial shredders, which crash them into small particles, hence, physically destroying them. This method leaves no traces of information that was stored in such a device.

Software wiping is another form of destroying information in hard drives. A certain software is used to delete information from the drives. After the information has been deleted, the drives can be re-cycled and other records stored in them. It is a cost effective process, since only the records are destroyed and the drives re-cycled for some other use.

It is essential to embrace data destruction services in various institutions that normally handle huge amount of confidential information. They should choose the right means of disposal, in regard to their storage devices. This whole process of destroying information will largely boost security of some very confidential information that are usually handled on daily basis by many organisations.
