Diablo III Guide - Introduction

By Jassper Jenkins

In this Diablo 3 guide, I am going to cover numerous fundamentals of this awesome new game. I will explain to you exactly what type of game Diablo 3 is and the basics of how play it. I will also provide a great deal of awesome gaming hints for you to help level your characters quickly to 60. And speaking of characters, this guide will give you a basic understanding of the different character classes and help you choose which one to play.

Most role-playing games move rather slowly and require a great deal of time to level up your characters. Often, the periods in between the action are lengthy and somewhat boring. Diablo III is quite the opposite. As an action role-playing game, the focus is most certainly on fast-paced gameplay and intense battles.

As you first enter the Diablo III world, you'll notice that the graphics are a massive improvement over Diablo II, as they should be. The nice thing, however, is that this new version of the game still maintains the overall feeling of the series by giving you a birds-eye view of the action and your surroundings. The controls are still primarily set up on the mouse for your main attacks and the keyboard for less frequently used abilities.

There are 5 character classes you can choose from in Diablo III. Your choices are the Wizard, Barbarian, Monk, Demon Hunter and Witch Doctor. Each class brings a unique array of skills into the mix and gives a very different experience. While the Wizard and Demon Hunter primarily rely on ranged attacks to defeat their enemies, the Monk and Barbarian are more focused on doing melee damage.

And then there's the Witch Doctor. The Witch Doctor is a bit of a hybrid class. They are able to do both melee and ranged damage and can also summon a variety of pets to fight for them.

As much as you may want to play around with each class, remember that the game gets very hard in the later difficulty modes such as Hell and Inferno. You'll want to invest some time in learning a class thoroughly so that you are able to survive in the harder levels. I often find that if I bounce around too much from class to class, I become a jack of all trades and a master of none, so to speak.

Be sure to keep an eye out for health globes as you're leveling. They look like glowing red balls and they have a chance to drop every time you kill an enemy. These little guys will heal you and any teammates in the immediate vicinity and will certainly save you life countless times.

Another good thing to remember is to never stand in fire, poison, or anything else that looks deadly. When you're battling 30 monsters at once, things may get a bit chaotic. Try to keep your wits about you and remember to look where you're standing. It's very easy to get wrapped up in the heat of battle and suddenly realized that you just roasted yourself to death.

With any luck, you have learned some useful tips in the Diablo 3 guide and are ready to get started leveling in the world of Diablo 3. Now the question remains, which character are you going to choose?
